Exposed

  "Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed because of Cush their hope and Egypt their boast. And the inhabitants of this coastland will say in that day, 'Behold, this is what happened to those whom we hoped and to whom we fled for help to be delivered from the King of Assyria! And we, how shall we escape?'  - Isaiah 20:5-6 (ESV) How shall we escape? What a fitting question we must be routinely asking ourselves this season. Israel was built on God's covenant with Abraham, yet here they are putting too much stock on the might of Egypt because they have the resources. Here, Israel's idolatry towards Egypt was exposed. Helpless because their trustworthy neighbor has fallen. How might we relate to this? Reading Isaiah 19-20 reminded me of how my most emotional/visceral responses to current events expose my subtle idolatries. Our Greatest Need

  With a lot of uncertainties in this current health and economic crisis, from time to time our focus might be on money for bills, food or something else that makes worry. So this got me thinking, what are our greatest needs above all things? We need to be regenerated        “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience – among whom we all once lived in the passions of the flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved” -  Ephesians 2:1-5 (ESV)               We see from this verse that our nature as humans ...
